The class starts in ten days.  I've been flattening my water stones and sharpening my plane blades and chisels.  How do I pack up the tools to take to Maine?  I don't think the solution will be elegant.

Today my copy of Iain Oughtred, A Life in Wooden Boats, by Nic Compton arrived.  It is an attractive, well illustrated, volume that addresses Mr. Oughtred's life and his career as a designer of beautiful small boats.  It has some fine photographs and line drawings.  I'll give a brief summary as soon as I finish the book.

Building the Ness Yawl

  • This is a photo of the Ness Yawl being sailed by its designer, Iain Oughtred.  It was found at http://www.bluestempaddler.com/ness/ness-yawl-images/  That site credited Kathy Mansfield as the photographer

On August 7, 2011 I'll be attending The Wooden Boat School in Brooklin Maine. The class project will be to build the 19 foot Ness Yawl over a two week period. I'll start posting once the class begins.

Please be patient; this will be my first attempt at blogging
